One of the radio stations here has been playing 100% Christmas music since November 1st, and that’s just not right. Fall is a glorious season in its own right; Frosty and Rudolph and Santa and the baby Jesus should wait their turn. It’s rude to show up so early for a party, guys. Wait until the turkeys and Pilgrims clear out, okay?
Though I’m a traditionalist about the when of Christmas music, I’m pretty liberal about the what, as reflected on the mix I made last year. I have equal love for soaring choral renditions of classics like Ave Maria and irreverent tunes like Eric Cartman’s version of O Holy Night–“Jesus was born and so I get presents” makes me smile every time. However, I could live the rest of my life quite happily if I never again had to hear All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth or the Chipmunks singing anything.
One year ago today, I did not write an entry.
Two years ago, the only way I managed to sort through a stack of stuff on my desk was to write about it as I did it. I should try that again sometime–it may not make for a fascinating entry, but at least I’d get some decluttering done.
Three years ago, I was gone skiing.
