Hitting the Pavement
July 7, 2007
I had high hopes for my workout this morning since this week has been the best week of running I’ve had in a long time. Both Monday and Wednesday I was able to get a good chunk of running in before I stopped to walk; that I can now do nine or ten minutes with no pain from my ITB shows that doing my PT exercises is having a positive impact. My average pace for those workouts was over a minute faster per mile that what I’ve been doing lately, so I was encouraged. Today, though, it was back to the slow. Not as slow as I was at my worst, but still disappointing after the previous two outings. I did do about 10 minutes of running to start, at a pretty good pace, too, but then the heat started to get me. I probably wasn’t hydrated enough, either, but if I’d waited until later to go out, it would have been even hotter, so that wouldn’t have helped. I ended up being a minute slower in my average than I’d been on Wednesday. Bah. I didn’t go as far as I wanted to, either, though I did stay out longer than either of my other sessions this week.
I guess it’s good that I’m still working at it, but it’s frustrating. It’s worse than starting from scratch, I think, since I don’t get the thrill of doing something I didn’t think I could. Now, I’m just trying to get back to where I was before and hoping I can someday do more. Maybe I need to sign up for a race to give myself some added motivation.
