Round 1: I put the suet cake in the holder and hang it in the bush. Entire suet cake disappears overnight; door to holder is found hanging open.
Round 2: I put a new suet cake in the holder and secure the door with a ball chain, looped around twice so it’s pretty tight. Entire suet cake disappears overnight; door to holder is found hanging from ball chain as hinges have been twisted free.
Round 3: I put yet another new suet cake in the holder and secure the door (after bending hinges back into shape and reattaching) with four metal twist ties. Victory! Suet cake does not disappear overnight. Birds observed pecking at it during daylight over the course of several days so far. Night creatures likely studying best way to defeat twist ties but in the meantime I’m savoring my triumph.
