Not Quite So Belated Check-In

Today, an update on progress toward my goals since my last self-administered report card.
1. Weigh less and move more.
I do not weigh less. I seem to have completely lost touch with the part of me that can stick to an eating plan or for more than a day or two, unless the eating plan is “grab whatever is handy”. I logged my exchanges for a few days, and I did grapefruit and protein for a few more, but mostly I just gave up trying. I don’t know. I expect even if I had someone else deciding what I should eat, preparing the food, and delivering it into my hands before every meal and snack, I’d find a way to fail. But I have to find a way to succeed, because there is no way I can exercise away enough calories to make up for my typical food choices—not if I want to have any time to sleep, which I very much do.
I have been moving more. The FitLinxx e-mail for April told me I lifted the equivalent of 12.1 elephants during the month, up from zero in March (the system was down the one time I went that month) and 8.0 in February. I’ve also been adding some track time to my gym days. My sore heel isn’t completely back to pre-pain normal, but it’s better enough that I thought I’d try some walking on the cushioned track. Since that didn’t seem to aggravate the injury, I tried a lap of running one week, then a few more the next, then a few more, and so far the pain hasn’t gotten worse. I think it’ll be some time before I’m willing to risk running on pavement again; I’m bummed at missing the spring races I’ve done in the past but hopeful I’ll be able to do them in 2010.
2. Keep less and organize more.
I didn’t setup any sort of log or spreadsheet to track my accomplishments in this area like I thought I should try to do. I did sort through a lot of image files from last year and archived the ones I decided to keep to CD, freeing up a gig or two of harddrive space. I did update my quilting book inventory and in the process filled a box with books to get rid of. I probably did a few other things I’m forgetting now. I hope so.
3. Surf less and contribute more.
For this one, I do have a spreadsheet, so I can confidently say I did most of what I wanted to do. I overachieved in some areas, like Distributed Proofreaders and Find a Grave, and fell short in others, like QuiltGroup, but on balance I’m happy with how I spent my non-work online time in April.
