I got so distracted by work (we switched to new database servers for our production system a full week earlier than planned which meant lots of testing and some weekend work over the Labor Day holiday) and the condo purchase (many e-mails and phone calls and forms related to the mortgage and inspection and insurance and furnishings and such) that I didn’t even think to look for the elephant lifting e-mail until a few days ago. This month, it went directly to my junk folder, so that’s why I didn’t see it when it came in. I’ve got it now, though, so let’s see how I did on my August targets.
1. Weigh less and move more.
I said I’d go to the gym 6 times, run 8 times, and do the Fitter and/or free weights 3 times. Did I? Yes (went 6 times), yes (ran 9 times), and no (did only 2 sessions, but they did include both Fitter and free weights). I only lifted 15.7 elephant equivalents in August, compared to 21.8 in July, but I was on vacation out of state for a whole week, so I’m fine with that.
I didn’t set any diet goals but I did do some fairly restrictive dieting early in the month because I had to make sure I made the BMI cutoff to qualify for the less expensive health insurance rates the plan we belong to offers to people who “make healthier lifestyle choices”. I accomplished this by making the not particularly healthy choice to do my version of the grapefruit and protein diet for two weeks, during which I lost seven pounds, followed by two and a half days of drinking the Master Cleanse “lemonade” (which I will not link to because that’s a crazy plan), during which I lost another few pounds (oddly, I didn’t feel hungry like I expected to on that few calories a day). I went to the doctor, met the requirements (no smoking, blood pressure and BMI under the limits), and then went right back to my normal eating patterns, including having whatever I wanted on vacation. My net weight loss for the month was maybe a couple of pounds. I know I need to do better with what I eat, but I just am not motivated right now. I’m planning to keep exercising and hope that my healthy eating mojo will reappear one day soon.
2. Keep less and organize more.
I said I’d complete one organization project. If getting some photos into albums counts, I did this. If not, I can’t think of anything else I accomplished in this area. Again, I lack the appropriate mojo.
3. Surf less and contribute more.
I said I’d finish 1 DP project and proof/format a page a day there. I did the project but fell short on the pages, ending with 23 instead of 31. I said I’d add one memorial or photo a day to Find a Grave. I did, entering 31 memorials and uploading 54 pictures.
Targets for September: (You may recognize them from August.)
1) Gym 6 times.
2) Run 8 times.
3) Fitter and/or free weights 3 times.
4) Complete one organization project.
5) Finish 1 DP project, proof/format a page a day, and add one memorial or photo a day.
