Winters Past

December 10, 2010

February, 1965

February, 1965: Standing next to the smoke tree my dad planted in front of the house; it grew up with me but eventually died and had to be cut down.

February, 1965

Pulling my sled back up the hill that our house was on. There was a road at the bottom of the hill and another one alongside it, but there wasn’t much traffic on them when I was young. And besides, there were ditches alongside the roads to catch wayward children before they slid or rolled out onto the pavement.

1966-ish

By the next winter, I had a brother. He was much smaller than the smoke tree and not allowed to join me on the sled.
