A Trip Down Memory Lane

December 23, 2011

We had a minor flood in our basement recently (thanks, automatic icemaker). While sorting through stuff to see what got wet, I found a group of postcards I collected on a family vacation in the early 1970s. My mom, my grandmother, my brother, and I went to visit family near Toronto and on the way made a stop in metro Detroit, including a day at the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. Evidently I had some mixed feelings about this outing, as evidenced by the comments I wrote on the cards.

Anyone for history? Nope. Hmm, not off to a promising start.

Rating? O.K. I wish I recalled what criteria I used to rate the Lincoln Death Chair.

I hate museums!! Wow, someone was cranky. I like museums now, but I get to pick which ones I go to and when.

This part of the museum was O.K. The decorative arts wing gets a nod of approval from our pre-teen critic. That makes sense; it’s one of my favorite parts of the museum even now.

One of the better stops. We bought Candy + towels in this store. Candy makes things better.

One of the best stops on the way to Canada. All’s well that ends well.

Candy always makes things better! The mob cap is pretty cool too.
