Lucky 13

December 1, 2014

It’s December, so it’s time for Holidailies. Of course I signed up. How could I not? This will be my 13th year participating, which makes it a longer-lived tradition than most things I’ll do to celebrate this winter holiday season. This year, I first heard that registration was open on Facebook, which wasn’t even a thing when I did Holidailies for the first time.

Based on my recent posting history here, it seems ridiculously optimistic to think I will manage to write every day. Even every other day would be a stretch. But a certain amount of stretching is good for me, so here I am. I’d have a much better chance at succeeding at the daily part of Holidailies if I’d signed up with my nail blog, since I’ve averaged 15 posts a month there so far this year versus the paltry two I’ve managed here, but Holidailies is a Hat on Top tradition, not a Frazzle and Aniploish one (though I seem to recall I did slip a few posts from there into the Holidailies reddit the year we tried that platform rather than a dedicated portal).

My About Me page, which I updated at the start of Holidailies last year, is still basically correct; I haven’t made any big changes in my life in the last year. I wish I had. I wish I’d put more energy into getting my weight down and my strength up and my possessions less numerous instead of letting work and the daily grind suck up so many of my resources. I did take some time out to enjoy life, either in big chunks like vacations or smaller ones like playing with nail polish and reading romance novels, but really slacked on the self-improvement front. December, with its many demands related to work projects that must be finished by year end and holiday commitments for socializing and travel, is not an ideal time to get back on that path, but when is the ideal time? There’s always some reason I can point to for why I’m not doing the things I say I want to be doing for my mental and physical health, so I may as well see what I can do starting now. Sure, I’m not feeling that great today, what with battling the germs we picked up on our Thanksgiving holiday travels, but even hopped up on homeopathic tea and generic Sudafed, I can log my food into MyFitnessPal (just as soon as I remember my login information). So that’s what I’ll do today. I’ll log my food. Then I’ll do it again tomorrow, I hope. And the next day and the next. And by the time Holidailies wraps up, I’ll be able to point to at least that small step in the right direction toward my goal of not being BMI obese, and I’ll call that a success regardless of how many posts I manage to do here, though I’m going to try to do that consistently as well.

Hi from Holidailies! My blog has been a ghost town, so I’m hoping this will motivate me to write a little more also. I doubt I will make it every day, but I will try….

    Happy Holidailies.
And welcome to the club of people who have become the blogging equivalent of people who only go to church on Christmas and Easter, or to temple on the High Holy Days.
