A Week in Photos: 2024, Part 33

August 23, 2024

Monday, August 12: I happened to be the passenger as we came over the pass into Idaho on our last day of this road trip, so I snapped a photo. We had to come this route so we could pick up my car at the airport in Spokane (no such thing as an Uber to the airport where we live).

Looking through the windshield of a blue car at a four-lane divided highway. There's a curve in the road to the left ahead, a pine tree covered mountain directly ahead, and a blue and white Welcome to IDAHO sign by the right side.

Tuesday, August 13: Woke up at home for the first time in nearly two weeks (more than that for Mr. K). Was happy to see there wasn’t much wildfire smoke.

Ski mountain in summer, with the runs showing as bare lighter green areas in between the darker green pine tree covered ones. A deciduous tree with green leaves closer to the camera dominates the left side of the frame.

Wednesday, August 14: Because we paid for both the MLB Extra Innings and whatever tier/package/addon gets us the Marquee channel, I’ve gotten to watch a lot of Cubs content this season. Catching up on things we’d recorded while we were away, I was tickled as could be of this ad for public transport to games where they’d inserted live shots of the two guys in the booth (Jim Deshais and Jon “Boog” Sciambi) and the sideline reporter (Taylor MacGregor). I think I watch as much for the banter between the on air personalities as I do for the baseball.

TV screen showing an ad for the El in Chicago, with a cartoon-y train on the left side, the windows of which are filled with faces of the broadcasters. Text reads Getting to Wrigley Field, shows a map and a URL below that.

Thursday, August 15: Mr. Karen and I rode the lift up to the top to check on the huckleberries, but didn’t pick more than a few because it was late in the day and a storm was rolling in.

Valley with a lake in it view from the top of a ski mountain in late summer. The sky is grey and filled with rain clouds.

Friday, August 16: Went down to the city to meet up with friends. Stopped at the store on the way and came out to find a big bulky work truck parked so close to my car that I had to climb in from the passenger side. There were plenty of empty spaces at the end of the row, mere yards away, but no, he had to squeeze in next to me. Thank goodness I’m still limber enough to crawl over the center console.

Blacktop parking lot with part of the side of a truck that's parked over the line, a small gap, then part of the side of my yellow orange car.

Saturday, August 17: Picked huckleberries on top of the mountain with Mr. Karen.

My left hand, held palm up, thumb and first three fingers and part of the palm stained with huckleberry juice.

Sunday, August 18: Beautiful summer day, which I spent partly at the park and partly at the marina, where I met up with Mr. Karen after he’d gone sailing. The public marina where our boat is is on the other side of a strip of land from what I think of as “the rich people docks” (seen below). Nary a sailboat to be seen over there. Maybe the HOA forbids them for some reason.

Lake with boat docks filled with power boats. Tree covered mountains in the distance.
