A Week in Photos: 2024, Part 36

September 13, 2024

Monday, September 2: Our guests left after brunch, heading off toward their next adventures on the road. After saying goodby to them, Mr. Karen and I headed down to the village to enjoy the last day of summer season on the mountain. The cider and seltzer tent at the festival was shut down entirely, not a drop to be had, but there was still some beer left, so Mr. K got a glass and we headed over to the lift for one last ride up. It was then that we saw the sign saying our passes were blocked out for the holiday weekend. My face was very frowny, as this had never been the case in previous years under the old ownership. We managed to work it out but it left a bad taste in my mouth wondering what they’ll take away or jack the price up of next. Put those thoughts aside and enjoyed taking in the views from the top one last time before winter, though it was a bit hazy.

View from top of a ski mountain in late summer. A lift line with the chairs on it climbs up the slope on the right. A small lake is at the base of the slope, and a large one is in the valley below through the haze.

Tuesday, September 3: Spent the afternoon out on the sailboat.

Wednesday, September 4: Didn’t take any photos, just screenshots, like this one of a book I want to add to my to-read list. Why didn’t I just open the site where I keep my to-read list and add it right away is a valid question I don’t have a good answer to. Maybe because clicking over to a new site would quite possibly distract me and I’d then wander off in a new direction and not get back to catching up with my social media (not that I’m ever going to really be caught up enough to not miss stuff, of course).

Thursday, September 5: Summer season is over, but the restaurants are still open for folks to enjoy on a pleasant evening. Mr. K and I were just walking by to get our mail.

Friday, September 6: Went down to the city to hang out with friends. Stopped for gas on the way home as I usually do even if I don’t need much, since it’s cheaper down there than closer to home. Was tickled that it automatically shut off at $15; numbers like that are very satisfying to me for some reason.

Saturday, September 7: “Free for all” breakfast is something of a Saturday tradition at our house. Instead of having yogurt or cereal as we do most days, we go wild and have something else: eggs, pancakes, steel cut oats, French toast, or, as on this day, waffles. I made savory ones with broccoli and cheese while Mr. K made traditional sweet ones.

Sunday, September 8: Because there’s no need to go to the village to get the mail on Sundays, Mr. K and I are free to walk in any direction. This day, we went up the road to see some of the construction sites that are contributing to all the loud traffic on our street (and big trucks turning around in our driveway). I know that people are allowed to do what they want with their lots, but it sure does make me sad to see places that used to be covered in trees and full of wildlife getting stripped to the dirt to make way for more houses that no one will be occupying most of the year. And yes, I know that’s hypocritical of me, who only spent a few weeks a year in my condo for the five years before I moved here full-time.
