A Week in Photos: 2024, Part 40

October 14, 2024

Monday, September 30: Left the retreat house just after breakfast to drive home. None of the journey was on an interstate, but fortunately there were a couple roadside rest stops on the two lane highways I was on. I snapped the shot below from the one along the Clearwater River.

POV from bank of a river with a round shaped pine tree to the left. Across the river there's a brown hill with scrubby greenery dotted on its slope.

Tuesday, October 1: I was a bit startled to look up from my couch and see a bear outside the window. Such a sighting is not unprecedented for sure, but rare enough that it’s always a bit of a shock. This particular bear strolled around between the back and side of the house before heading off to the neighboring property.

Four-panel collage of photos showing a brown bear prowling around outside various windows in my house.

Wednesday, October 2: In a few months, I should be skiing on these slopes. Now, though, the tamaracks are just starting to turn from green to yellower green on their way to going full golden yellow and then dropping their needles.

POV looking at past a ski lift to slopes cut between stands of trees that are just showing fall color.

Thursday, October 3: Yellow is the predominant fall color around here, but there are spots of orange and red, too, like on these leaves I saw along the side of the road when out for a walk.

Large leaves with one large pointed lobe in the center flanked by two much smaller on each side, colored burgundy, rust, yellow, and green.

Friday, October 4: I re-blued my hair. (Also this is what I look like at 62 with no makeup.)

Me, a sixty-two year old white woman with blue eyes and brighter blue hair worn long over my shoulders.

Saturday, October 5: The snow guns are in place, just waiting for cold enough weather. Not sure what the excavator is for … maybe the lines that feed the guns need digging up and repairing.

POV looking up a ski slope in fall. Three yellow snow guns are spaced out along the run, and yellow excavator is also sitting on the slope for unknown reasons.

Sunday, October 6: Apparently it is bear week, because there were two across the street (not sure if one is the same one that was here on Tuesday). I only noticed them because one of the guys from the drilling crew that’s been renting the place next door was out in the middle of the street holding his phone up … we found out later he’d tried to pet the littlest one, which just no, not a good idea in any way. (My photo is blurry because I didn’t want to get too close … stayed up on my balcony the whole time.)

Two bears peeking up over a driveway from the slope beside it.
