A Week in Photos: 2025, Part 3

January 23, 2025

Monday, January 13: Quiet day at home. I liked the hint of pink in these clouds over the ski mountain at the end of the day, viewed from my dining room.

Mountain in winter with snow covered ski runs, viewed from a medium distance. Palest hints of pink in the sweep of blue clouds above the slopes.

Tuesday, January 14: Finally my cough let up enough that I felt I could go out skiing. I only did three runs so as not to push too hard and spur a relapse of some sort. They went well, and it felt good to get out there again.

Me, wearing plum colored ski helmet with goggles and lilac and plum winter coat, with ski slope and sun behind me.

Wednesday, January 15: Had an excellent view of the mountains across the way from my front window. Often isn’t this clear. Also had an excellent view of the rec district shuttle vans which park there during the season. They only make shuttle runs on weekends and holidays.

Looking out across a street with two grey vans parked opposite, and a mountain range across the valley in the distance. The sky is peachy orange with alpenglow.

Thursday, January 16: Went down to my studio to poke at some boxes and such. I had some issues with the alarm system not responding to my key fob reliably, so set the alarm off when I got there, meaning I had to call the property manager’s emergency after hours line to tell them it was me and please call off the sheriff. About a half hour later, the alarm panel started sounding a solid tone and displayed a message I’d never seen before. Relayed that to the after hours line and they hadn’t seen it either. The code they thought might clear it didn’t, but the automated closing time routine a half hour later did, during which time I had to sit out in my car for a few minutes for some reason that wasn’t clear to me. All was okay after that until I left, when the alarm went off again.

Friday, January 17: Broke off a big icicle from a house we walked by on our way home from getting the mail. Planted it in the snow pile by our front door just because.

Tall icicle sticking up from a snowbank in front of the wall of a house.

Saturday, January 18: More alarm shenanigans at the studio. This time the solid tone wouldn’t go off, and the after hours line couldn’t help with that, so I filled a box with bubble wrap and rags and taped it over the alarm panel to dull the sound so I could do what I’d come down to do. Got home just in time to see the holiday show: snowcat procession, torchlight parade, and fireworks. Didn’t go down to the village, just stood across the street from our house.

Small ski village at night. A blue and white firework burst hangs above the one of the ski runs.

Sunday, January 19: Having tested whether I’m still contagious on friends one on one with good results over the past couple weeks, I decided it was low risk to go down to the city for a small gathering. Stopped at the big grocery store on my way home and out of habit took pictures of the nail polish displays, even though I didn’t post in my nail blog at all in 2024.
